Stock cars: Blackout, Crashes, fire

Yesterday evening was an evening with some of the best motoring entertainment. I joined a Colleague and his wife to go to Humbley speedway track to watch some racing. I wasnt sure what exactly it was because my colleague said that it is hard to describe and it is something you have to experience(and yet im trying to write a post about it).

When we got there I heard some high pitched engines and it didnt sound like they were something that were driving on dirt. We then got in and the first machine I saw was the a funny looking car wich is best described as a fly with four wheels and a slight displaced cockpit. They were powered by motorbike engines and that explains the high pitched engine sound.
Next up was the production car class. And by production they ment: out of production, i think that the newest car in the field was a mitsubishi FTO. And the only thing left from the production car was the body. Everything else was stripped away in order to avoid glass and plastic getting into the drivers faces when crashing. They were good entertainment but nothing to what was still to come.

In rolled some cars which looked like they have just dropped out of a Godfahter movie, got fuel with ethanol and got a rollcage in them. I was getting high hope, which got shattered in a split secound when my colleague turns to me and says: "This class is boring as hell, its 12 - 16 year old kids driving". The race started and they went round and round and nothing dramatic happend. So my colleague was right....

After a while it became clear that they have a good photocopier in the back because in rolled cars looking exactly like the cars the kids drove just scaled up to 150% in size and sound.
They did some showoff and in the end all but 10 cars disapeared. 2 cars from two teams were to battle each other. Yes it is battle not race. They putted 1 car in the middle of the track to preserve them and drove with 4 each.
They line up in the grid bumper to bumper and when the green flag goes on they are off, or some of them are cause some just stands still waiting for the leader to come around and then take him for a closer look at the concrete wall sorounding the track.
The trick is then to see if it is possible to have all your cars in the top in order to score the most points in order to advance to the finals. But you also have to protect your leading car otherwise the other team will just crash him till his car dies. Another thing is to crash your own car into another car only damaging the other car and not your own. It proved to create some spectacular crashes, cars flipping, catching fire and some oldskool head on collisions.

Great entertainment

Pictures to come a bit later.
